Markov and the Indus Script

The Indus Valley, now the border between Pakistan and India, was once home to an ancient civilization that left thousands of artifacts bearing mysterious reliefs. Specialists have speculated whether these markings were used for aesthetic purposes or if they amount to a forgotten language. Today, researchers are applying mathematics to the question. Using the Markov model, a system engineered by Andrei Markov that traces patterns in complex stings of information, they may find their answer. Early developments indicate that their is some logic to the Indus script, but a coherent language has yet to emerge. Read more at Sciencedaily and see more images at Science Source.
